A first in class, a second in class and two top ten finishes overall represents a fantastic start to the 2016 season by our sponsored Thundersport 600 Sportsman competitor Sam Osborne. 24-year-old Sam, who rides for the leading tuning and racing team MSG Racing, modestly described the first race weekend of the season at Brands Hatch as a “testing weekend with extreme conditions… but I am very happy to get my first win of the season and put some points on the board”.

Out of the three races over the weekend, Sam crashed out of the first and was thankfully unhurt. In race two he was second in class, and eighth overall and won his class in race three coming sixth overall. Sam raced alongside Thundersport 600 Elite riders scoring points in his own class as well as points in the 600 Elite Championship for his top ten finishes.

After a practice day on Friday March 4th in cold, dry and sometimes sunny conditions, Sam had what he described as a steady successful day. However, typical of our British weather, Saturday dawned with rain, sleet and very cold conditions making qualifying and then racing a very different proposition to the previous day’s practice.

In qualifying, Sam finished second, one of only two riders to go under the one minute mark and was all set for race one. After starting on the front row and leading the way, Sam crashed out but was unhurt and his Suzuki GSX-R 600 was also virtually undamaged.

Great Season Beckons for Lane Motorsport’s Bike Racer

Sam Osborne Lane Motorsport Bike Racer

Sam Osborne Lane Motorsport Bike Racer

Successful off-season practice and testing as well as a bike that “promises to give a few more mph” all suggest that Thundersport 600 Sportsman competitor Sam Osborne is set to have a great year. 24-year-old Sam, who rides for the leading tuning and racing team MSG Racing, is also sponsored by The Motorsport Division of Lane Electronics.

“Despite the cold and wet conditions at the recent track assessment and general test sessions, we were very happy with the way the bike went”, says Sam Osborne. “We are waiting for the final data but it looks like MSG Racing has managed to squeeze a few more mph from my GSX-R 600 which was already a quick machine,” he adds.

That extra performance could well come in handy as Sam will be racing alongside the Thundersport 600 Elite bikes as his Sportsman class and the Elite class will be racing at the same time. As a result, 600 Sportsman riders score points in their own class but are also able to score points in the 600 Elite Championship.

The first racing weekend takes place at Brands Hatch beginning with practice on March 4th.

FC Lane Electronics is a leading authorised SOURIAU distributor and its Motorsport Division is providing a World Champion F1 Team with SOURIAU 8STA circular connectors for the car’s engine control box.

SOURIAU’s 8STA compact circular connector family is used extensively throughout all levels of motorsport in applications such as engine control units, communications equipment, data acquisition systems and harnesses.

SOURIAU 8STA circular connectors

The series of SOURIAU 8STA circular connectors consists of several connector types, each designed to meet specific motorsport applications.
